Howzzat!!

‎So, today is the D-Day!

For the first time ever India and Pakistan are facing each other in the world cup semi-final

For the first time ever, it will be an Asian final

For the first time ever, there are brightest chances of India getting the cup home

For the first time ever, the prime ministers of two countries will watch a cricket match together

For the first time ever, there are official mailers going on in corporate that the timings for today are from 7am to 2pm so that they can go and cheer team India

Never ever have I seen madness for cricket to this extent and the enthusiasm is truly infectious

The newspapers, television and even facebook are overflowing with the slightest details concerning this match.

*********

Sample a few of them:
Afridi (prays to God) : God, please let us win this match
God : Sorry cant grant you this wish, I am opening Indian batting J

*********

What are the three things that the Pakistan cricketers be afraid of the most?
3. YuV and Dhoni
2. The batting legend
1. 1 billion screaming Indians

*********

Afridi (to Shoaib) : Hum kisi bhi haal me Sachin ko century ki century nai banana denge
(Come what may, we will not allow Sachin to make his 100th century)
Shoaib : Magar hum use rokenge kaise? Wo to gazab k form me hai? (But how will we stop him, he is in a tremendous form)
Afridi  : Hum 100 ke andar hi all out ho jaenge (We will be all out within 100 runs )
(Sheesh)

***********

Advice for girls : If a man spends the whole day with you today, MARRY him!!

***********

But the best is a status message of one of my best friends and I am posting it here (with due permission :P)

1 lakh for a 10k ticket, 17 lakhs for a 10 second advertisement, 22000 for a one way ticket to Chandigarh on Wednesday morning flights, Richest men in Asia fighting for jet parking space at Chandigarh airport, 1 billion hearts synchronized at the same level, productivity hits a new low on the final day of the financial year..No, this... is not just a cricket match it’s a way of life!
Go INDIA..! Bleed Blue...!

***********

But if you ask me, I don’t care who’s a better team, I just want India to win this match..
Go INDIA!!!

An Eventful Evening

Yesterday, one of my friend reminded me that I have not blogged in a while. (I was glad that at least some one is reading and missing my posts :P) I told him that I am thinking of a topic to blog about (Well, actually few days have been absolutely insane at work) and forgot all about it. Never had I thought that I will get a topic so soon.

So yesterday, we had some meetings at the client place. So I, along with my manager went there to attend the meeting and freeze some issues. To our surprise, there were some other issues they were facing which in turn will impact the date of project delivery. Somehow, we arose from this fact and finished the meeting.

He dropped me at some place from where he had to go to a different route and I was supposed to catch a Volvo.(For the uninitiated, I am talking about the Volvo bus services started by the government) I didn’t have wait long and I boarded a Volvo. I got a shock of my life when I found that I was not carrying my wallet. Now I am a kind of person who has some amount of money in each and every pocket of my bag, however, I recalled that I had religiously collected money from all these pockets and tucked it in my wallet a day before! On top of it my mobile battery was dead. Usually I carry the charger with me, but since a day before was a weekend I took it out of my bag to charge my cell and forgot to put it back. Truly said, tragedy strikes from all directions simultaneously (and I thought that something like that can never happen to me :-/ ) So I got down at the next stop. Yes I am guilty of travelling one stop in the Volvo without ticket :P When I narrated this incident to Ma, she was giggling and asked what if there were ticket checkers at that stop, but God was kind and there were no more surprises for me at that stop. I managed to switch on my cell for a moment, called J* and told him that I have no money and I don’t know the exact name of the place where I was standing but I know the aas paas ke areas, as I proceeded to tell him the details and my phone was dead again. I gathered all my senses and tried to think about the probable solutions to the problem. I even considered walking to my place but dropped the idea(thankfully) as it was not feasible :P  Finally I decided to hire an auto that will drop me till my place. After some walking I found one auto. He asked triple fare and would not budge from that amount. Devoid of any other option, I got into it. I called J* from the autowallah’s cell (Sheesh) as I knew he would be thoda tensed. Somehow I reached home and my first words to J* were “No more discussions on this as I am home safe and sound! :P “

Robot

I finally watched the movie “Robot”. The fact that, me along with J* and mom-in-law were awake till 12 on a Sunday night, even though had to start the next day at 5 am, is reason enough to believe that we liked it J

Below are some random thoughts about the movie that are coming to my mind:

Ø  The concept of the movie- a super genius scientist (Rajni as Dr. Vasi) who invents a super intelligent robot (Rajni again as Chitti the robot) - is brilliant. (My jiju who has a specialization in robotics, claims that he can make a similar thing, but for laymen like me, it’s still brilliant :P)

Ø  Rajnikanth looked 30 years younger than his age

Ø  Aishwarya Rai is beautiful. I had read somewhere, that her role could have been played by any other actress. True, but it wouldn’t have been the same and even though I don’t like her voice, her looks compensate with that

Ø  Thinking about it, the casting is funny. The heroine romances a guy who is as old as her father-in-law(or father for that matter )

Ø  Danny Denzongpa  plays off his negative character quite well

Ø  Chitti is awesome as a machine, but things take a nasty turn when Dr. Vasi instils emotions in the machine and Chitti falls in love with his creator’s girlfriend(Aishwarya, that is)

Ø  The songs are shot gorgeously

Ø  The lyrics of the songs are nonsense, in Hindi at least. Hopefully they made some sense in the Tamil version. Sample this – Mohan jo daro, isko dil me utaaro (???) from the song dhak dhak go, badi madhoshi (?????)

Ø  The music, even though by AR Rehman, fails to make an impact

Ø  The extended conversation of Chitti with the mosquitoes (yes, it’s there) is hilarious :D

Ø  The climax sequences with the army of Chittis are brilliant

Ø  They reminded me of Jurassic Park and Anaconda :P (I later read that the special effects are indeed done by the team who worked on Jurassic Park)

Ø  If one Rajnikanth is good for you, this has hundreds of them at one point

Yes, there are unbelievable action sequences that Rajnikanth is synonymous for, still the movie is much more than that and definitely recommendable. This roller coaster ride should be experienced!

Welcome back!

Yes, my  tiny tapori is back in my life and I am soo loving it. J I am talking about my niece Yukta. Didi and Yukta had been out of town for a good three weeks and me and J* so missed her. Suddenly she seems to be grown up J she is as talkative and lively as ever! She remembers everything. Kay Cee, being interested in astronomy, shows her moon, stars, constellations and stuff like that. She remembers and repeats the same things in front of us. Ma had taught her a song. She remembers and dances on its tunes.

We had eaten some chocolates in my room a month ago when didi had left her at my place. She is back now and we were sitting in the same room, she suddenly said that “Mausi, I had eaten chocolates here yesterday na?” (All the days before today are yesterdays for her )

I was not able to recall it, so I came up with : No Yukta, you must have eaten them at Nanima’s place.

Yukta(emphatically) : No mausi I have had it here yesterday.

And then it struck me that she is talking about an incident a month ago. Its then I realized how much a teeny weeny brain can remember J

*****

Last night, while we were having dinner, I gave her some daal-rice and she was eating all by herself (Yes, she thinks that at 2, she is big enough to do that) and in that process was scattering it everywhere. I was staring at her and she saw that, so she innocently came up with : Mausi, ye to gir gaya. Ye to aap utha loge na? (Its scattered. You will pick it up, won’t you?)

I was like: Yes, yes. That’s what I am here for :P

*****

She was doing her usual masti (Read throwing things, talking nonstop, running and entertaining me fully J) when she threw a rubik cube and was looking for a reaction.

J* (pretending to be angry) : Tiger hai kya? (Are you a tiger?)(Just like that, suggesting that are you so strong?)

Yukta: Main to Yukta hu. (I am Yukta)

Oh, so logical! J

*****

She is very attached to didi whom she calls Ma. She wants her Ma to do everything.  She is so obsessed with her Ma that till a few months back, she used to tell the housemaid, not to sweep the house as Ma will do it. (Thankfully, she has stopped now.) You got the point?

So when J* gave her a pair of old specs, she refused and haughtily said that I have one.

To which I said : Yeah we had brought a pair of pink goggles for you right? (I had indeed went to buy the gogs)

Yukta: No, only Ma had brought it!

Me : :-/

So welcome back you tapori! With you comes back liveliness in our otherwise monotonous lives. J

PS - I am going home next month for 10 days, so hopefully I will stop cribbing that I have not been home for a year  :P
