Movies and Weekends!!

Have been watching a lot of movies lately. Actually, covering up for all the missed ones and I must say, Bollywood has forgotten to make good movies. This year, none of the movies clicked with me to a great extent. To a good extent, yes, to a great extent, no. And before I forgot the promise I made to myself that I will write about every movie I saw, here is a brief account of the movies I have watched over last 2 weekends. (I made this promise to myself also because, this blog will have something other than I-me-myself J)

1.     No one Killed Jessica – It was slow in the beginning, but, edgy and gripping towards the end. It is based on the real life incident of murder of model Jessica Lal who was shot point blank, because she refused to serve a drink after closing hours, in the presence of 300+ socialites, wherein the witnesses eventually turn hostile and the accused who is a son of a politician is set free. Because of the public outcry, the case was reopened in a fast track court and the accused is sentenced with a life imprisonment and justice prevails. It is a story which almost everyone knows, yet the movie takes you to the exact incident, the dirtiness and political drama which happened subsequently after that fatal incident. Vidya Balan as Sabrina Lal, sister of Jessica Lal is brilliant, so is Rani Mukherjee as a journalist. The scene of candle light peace march was overwhelming. This film does deserve an ovation!

2.    Yeh Saali Zindagi – I didn’t like this movie, but many did. So if you are looking for something good, here is a very nice review by Taran Adarsh.

3.    Dil to Bachha Hai Ji – A comedy directed by Madhur Bhandarkar, who is known for his remarkable work in serious cinema. It is an okay movie. Not too great, neither very bad.  It revolves around three men – Ajay Devgn, Imraan Hashmi and Omi Vaidya, who are completely different from one another. Ajay Devgn is a divorcee and lattoo over his intern who is 17 years younger than him. Imraan Hashmi is stuck between a mother-(step) daughter pair, played by Tisca Chopra (of Taare Zameen Par fame) and Shruti Hassan. Omi Vaidya is in search of true love and is thoda  irritating. All in all, a one time watch movie. I would say that Madhur should go back to make the movies he is known for- serious and realistic movies (which i loved – Page3, Traffic Signal, Fashion to name a few). After all, I don’t want KJo to direct a sci-fi movie :P

4.    Toonpur ka Superhero – A movie made with target audience as kids in mind. As such, there are not many movies made for kids in India, so this is a nice attempt.

5.    Patiala House – Another attempt of comedy by Akshay Kumar. It’s about cricket and racism. Rishi Kapoor is the head of a family and stays in London. In his younger days he was a victim of racism so he avoids anything that is British. Akshay Kumar being his obedient son, follows his orders, whether he likes it or not, much to the dismay of the rest of the family members. He forgets his dream of becoming a cricketer (even though he is too good at it) and lives a life as directed by his father (shopkeeper). Anushka Sharma is refreshing. One of the few movies in recent times which can be seen with the family.

6.  Guzaarish – No matter what the box office says, I liked the movie. It deals with a sensitive subject of euthanasia also known as mercy killing. Hrithik suffers from quadriplegia  which means paralysis of lower body. The performances by all the characters are awesome. There are few very nice scenes in the movie :

a.    The court hearing at Hrithik’s home
b.    The scene where he struggles with the fly
c.    The fatal accident
d.     His struggle with the rain water pouring on him for the whole night

7.    Saw Golmaal(1)  for nth time and I don’t need to say anything about it! J

PS : This post was in my drafts since ages, was just too lazy to complete it! :P

Ma

Caution : I am in one of my senti moods, and so a senti post coming in. You can avoid reading if you are not in that mood.

Recently, a friend shifted from Bangalore to Pune and he finds Bangalore a better place after much consideration. (Refer here). Since I have lived in both the places, couldn’t help comparing. Although with Bangalore, a new chapter of my life commenced altogether, in Pune I tasted independence. I got my first salary. I made some very good friends, with whom I hope to be in touch for many years to come. I reinvented friendship with old friends. We were fresh out of college and with each other’s support, life was bearable, away from home and fun too. The best part about Pune was, I could rush home anytime I wanted, which is not the case with Bangalore. I haven’t been home for around a year L My friends are shocked too because they know that I am a very home loving person and I went home at every possible opportunity.

The one person I miss the most is my Ma. I have been lucky to receive unadulterated, unquestioned love from my mother. Even though I talk to her often, it’s not the same. I like her physical presence, even if we don’t talk, just the thought that she is there near me is soothing enough. I was lying down the other day and thinking that how easy and comfortable she made my life then. How she used to be worried about every little thing about me, it brings me close to tears. And how far away she is from me now. I am really thankful to her for all that she has done for me and my siblings. I thank God from the bottom of my heart that I have her as my mother.

Today, I see youngsters, both boys and girls, behaving so rudely with their parents that it pains my heart. Not that I have never spoken rudely with my parents. I have, more than once, but I have always regretted it later. Now that I am away from my folks, I have all the more, realized their importance.

If you are a girl and you are not married I have to say this to you: I love my husband. My in laws treat me like their own daughter and my mother-in-law would not stop gushing about how perfect their bahu is. Yet. Yet, there is nothing like home. Nothing like your own Ma and own Papa. No matter how modern your thinking is, a part of you does get divided after marriage. You are a part of two families. So all you bachelorettes, you belong 100% to your parents. Make full use of it. Please cherish every moment spent with them.

Bangalore Flower Show

The Flower Show is held in Bangalore twice a year at Lalbaugh in January and August on the occasions of Republic Day nad Independence Day respectively :P. Lalbaugh is one of the "must see" places in Bangalore. This botanical garden has more than 1000 species of flora and has trees which are more than 100 years old which are labelled for easy identification!

I visited the Republic Day Flower Show some time back and as usual it was awesome and beautiful. However, we went there on a Sunday and the place was so crowded that there was no space to stand and breath.
Still we enjoyed it and got to see millions of flowers(many of them are rare) together which, by far, is a dream these days! There are competitions also with the likes of HAL and Indian Railways as participants. (There were a lot of first prize boards, so not clear who the winner was)

Anyways, since we couldn't click much due to the huge crowd, below are some assorted pics from last year as well as this time:

Things I want Google to Do

Google(do go through the link) has become a necessity these days (for me at least!). I rely so heavily on Google that apart from it being my most visited website, it has even made me lazy. For the information, I would have needed days to collect, its all just a click away. I wonder how people used to manage before the advent of Google, or Internet, or even a computer, or.. ok ok I can go back to wheel so better I move on! J

Although Google is of such prime importance and imagining life without it is difficult, there are certain things that Google can’t do.. not yet..

1.       There is one line from a song I am humming since morning and I don’t know what are the next lines or the movie or rather anything about it and I am unable to get it out of my mind. I want that when I record that song in my voice and upload that wave file in Google and hit Enter, I should get the audio/video, lyrics, movie, starcast and the like.

2.        There are times when I see a beautiful picture and I wonder its origin or what the place is or who the photographer is. Or there are some creepy creatures I can see in the garden from my balcony.  I can’t, for my life, make out what they are. I fancy that when I click and upload that picture in the search engine I should get my answers.

3.       I sometimes recall a poem from my school textbook, I don’t remember its poet or the lines but I remember the gist of it. I wish that when I write the meaning of the poem, Google should be able to produce the poem with the name of the poet at one go.

I know that even now its not impossible. There are poetry forums and nature lover sites available. And with some effort I can find out. But that’s exactly my point, I want to do all this with no effort or little effort I may say, for uploading and hitting Enter.

I am pretty sure that a day will come when the above would be possible and I will laugh reading this post. But till that time, am I asking too much? Naah.. J

Why don't they get it?

Scene 1

I was having a conversation with a colleague when he said that “Sneha, you are so lucky, you always leave on time from office. I am so jealous if you.” I could not say anything to him, I just gave a sympathetic smile. I wish I would have said that “You waste upto 4 hours a day on tea/coffee , lunch and usual gupshup and gossips, it can easily be done under  1 hour and that’s why you have to stay till late. It has nothing to do with luck.” I mean isn’t it so obvious? If you spend more time roaming around, your work will suffer and you will HAVE to spend extra hours in office.

##Don’t you get it?

Scene 2

One of my colleague once told me “You are so fit and I have never seen you dieting *blush*. Look at me, no matter how much I diet and starve myself, I am not able to lose my weight. It must be the metabolism.” We separate at the foyer, I took the stairs and she took the elevator for her floor.

##Don’t you get it?

These are the examples from our day to day life wherein people just can’t see the apparent.  I guess its time for them to wake up and smell the coffee!

BTW, I would like to know if it happens with all or I am an alien. Do drop a line!
